F14: Nurturing Staff to Nurture Children: Strengthening the Foundation

Presenter(s):
Content Level:
Intermediate
Age Group:
Birth to 8 years

We all need nurturing! Including grownups. This session is especially for directors, administrators, and supervisors of early care and education facilities. The foundation of the Pyramid Model is an “effective workforce,” which includes many issues not within the realm of our day-to-day work such as state and national policies. However, there are many things a leader can do to contribute to a more effective workforce. This session will examine systematic use of intentional strategies to nurture staff and reduce their stress so they can more easily nurture children. We’ll examine organization climate, practice relationship building skills, and share ways to bring sunshine into any organization. We’ll role play unraveling typical problematic issues that arise in the child care setting using “problem solving for grownups” (based on the problem solving steps used with children). Several ‘toolkit’ items to use in your center will be provided.
